Whitbread support for humanitarian efforts
We have all seen the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Ukraine in recent days, and our hearts are with all those whose lives have been affected by the devastating events, and the unimaginable suffering caused by this unfolding human tragedy.
As a hospitality business, we are fortunate to employ people from all over the world and our immediate priority has been supporting our colleagues to ensure they have the help they need in these incredibly difficult circumstances.
Today, in further response to the crisis, we’re announcing as part of our Force for Good strategy that we will be raising funds of at least £500,000 in support of The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and their international humanitarian aid effort.
The funding, which is guaranteed by Whitbread, will be raised through matched fundraising activities in our hotels and restaurants across the UK. And we know many of our guests also want to help, so we’re also activating online giving at premierinn.com as well as digital top-up giving in our restaurants, enabling people to round-up their bill should they wish to do so.
The DEC is an umbrella group of charities coordinating the humanitarian appeal in Ukraine and bordering countries to fund food, water, first aid, medicines, warm clothes, and shelter for refugees and the money will be targeted helping those most in need.
In Germany, our charity partner Children.de will be diverting their funding to support children affected by the Ukraine crisis. We are in awe at the spirit and resilience shown by the Ukrainian people and our thoughts are with them in these darkest of times. We continue to hope for a rapid end to this crisis.
