UK’s biggest hotel company urges guests to double-check before checking out.

What do a goldfish, a gas mask and a glass slipper have in common?

It may sound like a cheesy joke, but in fact these are all some of the more unusual lost property items which have been found in Premier Inn hotels up and down the country.

Ahead of the summer holidays, which is its most popular time to stay, Premier Inn is revealing the most unusual items left in its hotels in a light-hearted bid to remind people to double-check they have all their belongings before checking out.

The hotel company, which is gearing up to welcome hundreds of thousands of guests into its 800 hotels across the UK this summer holiday, wants to make sure no-one leaves their room without all their property – however usual it is.

Amongst the more bizarre items found were a large-scale professional family portrait hung up by one guest in Bangor – presumably to make themselves feel even more at home.

Premier Inn is also revealing the most commonly lost items, with phone chargers perhaps unsurprisingly topping the list, as well as reporting a surge in Royal memorabilia left in its rooms.

Most unusual lost property

  • A glass slipper
  • A goldfish found in Birmingham – nicknamed Bab and adopted by a team member
  • A historic WWII gas mask
  • A huge family portrait
  • A box containing 50+ brand new suit ties
  • A pageant queen tiara
  • A wedding veil
  • Kim Kardashian-style padded underwear
  • A huge family portrait – proudly displayed on the wall

Top ten most commonly left

  • Phone chargers
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toiletries including shampoo and perfume
  • Glasses
  • Make-up bags
  • Books
  • Teddy bears
  • Single shoes – often found under the bed
  • City guides
  • Laptops

Also… an increase in Royal memorabilia, including Meghan and Harry masks, union jack flags and commemorative mugs.

Premier Inn Managing Director Simon Ewins said: “We’re set to welcome hundreds of thousands of guests to our 800 hotels across the UK this summer – so it’s inevitable some people will leave things behind. As the UK’s biggest hotel company, we’ve seen it all over the years in terms of lost property. Thankfully, we’re able to reunite most people with their lost items but we hope that by revealing some of the quirkier things we’ve found, it will encourage people to double-check they have everything before checking out”.

He added: “Some of the lost property really brings a smile to team member’s faces and the items left really speak to the huge diversity of travellers from every corner of the globe we welcome daily”.
