Our Thrive programme is an expansion of our decade long partnerships with Derwen college in Oswestry, and Hereward college in Coventry, where we have a special built mini-Premier Inn hotels on site, identical in every way to an operational Premier Inn, serving as a training facility for students to gain real experience within hospitality, including everything from guest relations to housekeeping.
For some young people with Special Educational Needs, our partnerships have helped them move towards employment through supported internships – and we are proud to employ many of them in permanent roles. For others, it has developed their confidence and they have gained skills for life; practical for whatever their bright futures hold outside of hospitality.

Currently the percentage of people with learning difficulties in paid employment stands at 4.8% and we understand our responsibility as a leading employer within the UK to shift this dial. To do this we hope to build new relationships with institutions around the country as we roll out our ambition to create 100 supported internship placements per year. Therefore, we are looking to work with organisations who share the same ambition of providing vocational and social skills and paid employment opportunities for young people with disabilities and additional needs.
Since 2019, Hereward College, which provides study programmes, learning experiences, and award winning work placement opportunities for young people (age 16-25) with complex disabilities and learning difficulties, has been home to the UK’s smallest Premier Inn, teaching students’ valuable skills including how to run a Premier Inn of their own!
