WHITBREAD TAKES A STEP CLOSER TO OPENING FIRST PREMIER INN HOTEL ON GUERNSEY
Whitbread’s development partner on Guernsey (ComProp) has today (08 December) announced the ‘practical completion’ of the first Premier Inn hotel on Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
In anticipation of its opening in early 2022, this latest generation 100-bedroom hotel, with 15 enhanced Premier Plus bedrooms, marks a significant step towards the completion of Phase 1 of the Admiral Park development at St Peter Port where the hotel is located.
The Guernsey St Peter Port (Admiral Park) hotel is the first Premier Inn to open in Guernsey and is offering rooms for a starting rate of £35 per night.
Jacqui Allum, head of the estate development team for Whitbread, said:
“We’re ending the year on a high with the practical completion of our new 100-bedroom Premier Inn at St Peter Port (Admiral Park) in Guernsey.
“The milestone marks a huge amount of hard work by our development partners Comprop, principle building contractor JW Rihoy & Son and colleagues in Whitbread’s construction team in building our first hotel in Guernsey.
“With construction work now complete we will start preparing the hotel to welcome guests from the middle of February, and we are currently recruiting our new team.
“As the UK’s largest hospitality business, we can offer a career in hospitality alongside competitive rates of pay, and we invest heavily in training, developing and progressing all our team members whether they work for us for a few days a week or full-time.
“With full and part time roles available across our housekeeping, front of house and kitchen teams, we know Premier Inn has opportunities for everyone and we would love to hear from people who want to be part of an exciting journey and work at Guernsey’s first Premier Inn.”
“The best way to get in touch is by emailing (guernseypijobs@whitbread.com). We are also planning drop-in recruitment days at the hotel in the next few weeks and will share more information on those exciting and fun days in due course.”
Whitbread is actively recruiting for between 25 and 30 permanent team members at the Guernsey Premier Inn with recruitment days are planned at the hotel in the next few weeks.
Managing Director of Comprop, Steve Marie, said:
“We are delighted to be able to announce the handover of the Premier Inn to Whitbread. This is a big milestone for Comprop in connection with Phase I of the Admiral Park development.
“Working closely with JW Rihoy & Son, and a large team of professionals including the Whitbread team, we have together guided the project through two lockdowns due to the global pandemic. Rihoy responded quickly to the significant challenges these presented, reprogramming works on a number of occasions and taking the initiative to forward order materials to mitigate losses caused by significant delays in both the UK and European supply chains. They have kept the project on track.
“Everyone connected with this project has pulled together through these unprecedented times – maintaining our close working relationship with the Planning Department, and being supported by local utilities and service providers, including the fire service, all of whom we wish to thank for their part in getting us to this important stage.
“We will be completing the remainder of the infrastructure by the end of January and the restaurant/brasserie will follow thereafter.
“This project once again sees Comprop injecting significant private sector money into the economy – which will mean jobs for local residents, expansion opportunities for Island businesses, and a major boost for the tourism industry.”
The UK’s largest hotel business is looking ahead to an exciting 2022 in the Channel Islands as alongside the new opening at St Peter Port, Whitbread is also opening a 122-bedroom Premier Inn at Bath Street in St Helier, Jersey in February.
Together, the new hotels grow Premier Inn’s network to three locations in the Channel Islands – and a total of 319 rooms – with the best available rates always available at www.premierinn.com.
