Whitbread PLC, the UK’s largest hotel business and owner of Premier Inn, is welcoming guests to its first Premier Inn branded hotel in Vienna, Austria.

The 180-bedroom Premier Inn, located near Vienna’s central station, was acquired by Whitbread as part of a portfolio transaction of six hotels in Germany and Austria in spring 2023.

The company took over the operations of the Wien City hotel in March 2023 and has since invested in various conversion and modernization measures, such as introducing new furniture, renovated bathrooms, and painting work in the rooms and on the façade.

The hotel is now operating as a Premier Inn offering customers the much-loved Premier Inn bedrooms as well as 29 enhanced ‘Premier Inn Plus’ rooms.

The rooms on offer at the Wien City hotel include double, family and accessible bedrooms rooms and the hotel also offers guests access to an underground parking garage with space for 31 vehicles.

Erik Friemuth, CEO of Premier Inn Germany, said:

“We are delighted that Premier Inn has now succeeded in entering the Austrian market and opening our first hotel in Vienna. The vibrant capital is an important market for us: from now on, we can offer our guests first-class accommodation in the immediate vicinity of one of Europe’s most central transportation hubs,”

The location in Vienna, Sonnwendgasse 8 is just a few minutes’ walk from the main train station and makes it an ideal starting point for travellers who want to explore the city and its sights such as St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Schönbrunn Palace, or the Danube Island.

Whitbread has the objective of becoming the number one hotel brand in Germany and currently offers its customers a choice of 60 Premier Inn hotels across Germany.
